Housebuilders have expressed their disappointment at the governments decision to revise the proposed housing provision for the south east downwards to 39,000 homes a year.

Last year the panel examining the draft regional planning guidance for the south east (outside London) recommended 55,000 new homes be built each year, in contrast to the 33,000 advocated by local authorities. In March the government proposed a compromise figure of 43,000 a year, but on Tuesday (December 18) the government reduced that figure to 39,000.
