HBF Ends Constitutional Relationship With Construction Confederation

THE House Builders Federation is set to become independent from the Construction Confederation following a poll of its members on July 3, 2001.

Whilst both organisations will maintain their close relationship, the move is seen as an opportunity for the house building industry to promote itself distinctly from the construction industry.

A spokesman for the HBF said: Most people see the house building industry as quite separate from the civil engineering and construction industry. The Government too, accepts that the issues facing house builders vary significantly from those in construction.

This change in the constitutional relationship between the HBF and the CC provides the opportunity to reappraise how both organisations might best serve their members.

A more commercial relationship is already in place between the two organisations and HBF have established service level agreements with the Construction Confederation. HBF currently buys many of its services from the Construction Confederation such as taxation advice and IT support. This is likely to continue for the forseeable future.

The spokesman added: From issues as varied as housing under-supply to recruitment and training initiatives, the housebuilding industry faces a unique set of objectives. The sweeping away of outdated and irrelevant constitutional red tape is the best way for both industries to focus on the challenges and opportunities ahead in the 21st Century.
