New Wimpey Group chief executive Peter Johnson has moved to merge the firm`s two UK businesses, McLean Homes and Wimpey Homes. The two have been run separately since Wimpey acquired McLean in an asset swap with Tarmac in 1995. Keith Cushen has been appointed managing director of the combined business.

Wimpey puts the cost of restructuring at 15 million but expects annual savings of up to 15 million from reductions in employment and administration costs.
