Events & Meetings HBF POLICY CONFERENCE 2017 With the government continuing to look for initiatives to boost housing supply and the industry looking to respond, this year’s HBF Policy Conference provides the perfect opportunity for the industry to come together to discuss progress towards that goal. Chaired by Martina Lees from The Sunday Times, this year’s conference will see communities secretary Sajid Javid, who has strong views about housing and housebuilders, updating delegates on the government’s plans and intentions and explain what is expected of the industry. Shadow housing minister John Healey will give the Opposition view and an idea of what a Labour government would want from the sector. Barratt chief executive David Thomas will tell the conference his plans for Britain’s biggest housebuilder and how he sees the market, and the challenges. These challenges will certainly include skills, and Jenny Herdman, HBF’s director of its Home Building Skills Partnership, will update delegates on the initiative. With the Legal and General Group investing time and resources into the market as well as establishing a modular homes factory, the firm’s director of housing James Lidgate will tell the conference of their plans and progress. Lucian Cook, director of residential research at Savills, will analyse the current market from his unique perspective while Mark Aedy, managing director of investment banker Moelis & Co, returns as a popular regular speaker at the conference, giving his view on the market and the structure and financing of the industry. In addition key speakers from the HBF will give their views on the housebuilding sector, including HBF executive chairman Stewart Baseley, planning director Andrew Whitaker and policy director David O’Leary.
