The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) has launched an industry-wide training scheme to increase awareness and understanding of heat networks.
The programme includes a one-hour introductory foundation course (which is available to all) and an installation and maintenance course (designed to enhance technical knowledge and skills).
The courses are being made available at a key moment for the heat network industry.
The Energy Act 2023 and the proposed Future Homes and Buildings Standards are expected to lead to a major expansion in the use of this technology. These new courses will help built environment professionals to grow their low carbon knowledge, as well as upskilling existing building services engineers.
Backed by government funding, the courses are being delivered through BESA’s Training Academy and have been developed in collaboration with the Manufacturers of Equipment for Heat Networks Association (MEHNA) and the Thermal Insulation Contractors’ Association (TICA).

As well as this latest training initiative, BESA continue to offer a limited number of free heat pump installation courses at their Academy centres in Essex, Hartlepool and Northampton. This upskilling training will enable qualified plumbing and heating engineers to correctly install and maintain domestic air source heat pumps.
