Braintree Affordable Housing Round Table

1 Apr, 2004

HBF has submitted a written paper for discussion at the June 2004 Braintree Local Plan Inquiry - Round Table session on the matter of affordable housing provision. It questions the Council's 30% affordable housing requirement, and also the overwhelming emphasis on social-rented housing provision.

The affordable housing threshold of 30% set out in the Plan is considered to be high in the context that many of the proposed allocations are brownfield sites.

The HBF also believes that the Housing Needs Study fails to give sufficient regard to the role of low-cost market housing. It also gives an over-prominence to the role of rented accommodation and the role of Registered Social Landlords, to the exclusion of other types of providers.
