What is a Construction/Site Manager?

The Construction department manages and organises the physical building of new homes, working with a wide team of skilled technicians.

Construction/Site Managers, supervise this construction from start to finish making sure the project is completed safely, to time scale and within budget. They organise meetings with architects, surveyors, planners and buyers before building work starts. Schedule planning work for the project and prepare the site by hiring the necessary staff, installing temporary offices and taking delivery of materials etc. Construction/Site managers work very closely with the site workforce, monitoring progress, costs and checking quality of the work so that it meets legal requirements and Building Regulations. They also relay all this information to the company or organisation.

How can you become a Construction/Site Manager?

To start as a trainee construction/site manager, you normally need a BTEC HNC/HND or a degree, or several years' experience within the industry. There are a lot of courses available that can help to prepare you with the skills and knowledge needed for the job, such as:

Building studies and building engineering

Surveying and civil engineering

Construction engineering management

Building management.
