Electrical installation

5 July, 2004

Plans to enhance electrical safety are among the range of new building controls announced by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

Each year on average 10 people die and about 750 are seriously injured in accidents involving electrical installations in the home.

Minor jobs like replacing sockets and light switches will not be affected - but after 1 July 2005 adding new circuits to a house will require Building Control, unless the work is carried out by a suitably qualified expert.

The full press release can be found on the ODPM's website and the new Part P will be published later this year.
