Government backs new homes week

4 March, 2005

The following press release was issued by new-homes.co.uk on 4 March 2005:

The government has given its full backing to New Homes Week (NHW), the newly launched initiative being held 7-13 March 2005. This clearly demonstrates that ministers recognise the industrys desire to rise to the challenge of building sustainable communities whilst seeking to raise the profile of new homes.

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott said: "I welcome New Homes Week as another great example of the construction industry rising to the challenge to deliver sustainable communities and build a good mix of high quality homes where they are needed most."

"We have made huge progress on our pledge to revitalise our towns and cities, and provide the homes people need, since I launched the 38 billion Sustainable Communities Plan in February 2003.

"Investment in communities means investment in construction - and that's why I have challenged industry to become much more efficient and deliver much better value for money - for example by demonstrating that it is possible to build high quality well-designed homes for a construction cost of 60,000. Judging by the huge number of responses so far we can look forward to some remarkable innovation in the future."

New Homes Week is a not for profit campaign launched by the House Builders Federation in association with The New Homes Marketing Board. The week will highlight the house building industrys commitment to delivering the governments sustainability agenda as well as promoting the environmental and sustainability advantages of new homes.
