HBF launches free Roofing Masterclasses for the home building industry

27 Nov, 2023

The Home Builders Federation (HBF) has released its new Roofing Masterclasses designed to enhance the skills of roofing trades working on home building sites throughout England, Wales, and Scotland. These free masterclasses, funded by CITB, aim to minimise defects and warranty claims within the roofing build stage.

Developed in collaboration with NHBC and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), the Roofing Masterclasses will align with the NFRC RoofCERT Accreditation ensuring participants receive industry-relevant training.

These 90-minute sessions offer those working in roofing trades with an overview on the common issues and defects identified by NHBC inspection teams. They can be delivered on site to minimise disruption to the workday and will focus on knowledge sharing, implementing best practices and providing practical insights on key build areas, including:

  • Condensation control
  • Fire stopping
  • Verges, valleys, and ridges
  • Flashing and cavity tray interface
  • Mortar
  • Roofing battens and underlays

The Roofing Masterclasses follow the successful Brickwork Masterclasses that were extended last month. Both initiatives are part of CITB’s £3 million investment dedicated to supporting the Home Building Sector Skills plan to enhance training, skills, and recruitment in the home building industry.

Bookings for the Roofing Masterclasses are now open, with training session beginning in January 2024. Visit the NHBC website to secure bookings.
