HBF Response to Shelter Report

30 August, 2005

In response to Shelter's report on housing aspirations published today, Alex Hunter, Spokesman for the Home Builders Federation (HBF), says:

“In Shelter’s poll, 63% of people surveyed said that a home which they can afford is what they want for their children when they leave the family home.

“The HBF recognises that peoples’ short-term concern is that they have somewhere within their means to live. Research shows, however, that the vast majority of people still aspire to own their own home.  As part of a wider policy of meeting housing aspirations across the market, we believe government should continue to look at ways of bringing home ownership within the grasp of as many people as possible – regardless of background or personal circumstances.”
