The housing supply statistics report 210,070 new build completions in England for 2021/22. The figure is up 10% on the previous year but down 4% on the 2019/20 peak.
While the figures suggest growth within the home building industry over the early half of this year, the impact of the recent economic and political turmoil puts industry’s ability to deliver much-needed homes at the same rate in jeopardy.
Stewart Baseley, Executive Chairman of the Home Builders Federation, says: “Housing supply has doubled over recent years due to unprecedented investment from UK home builders and supported by the pro-growth policy environment prior to 2018.”
Baseley continues: “The construction of these energy efficient new build homes is saving homeowners thousands of pounds each year and the economic activity is also supporting close to one million jobs in the sector and associated supply chains.”
He concludes: “The numbers underline the need for Government to re-engage with industry and address the anti-business and anti-development barriers now threatening future supply.”
