HBF’s Future Talent Conference 2024 inspires new generation of home builders

The Home Builders Federation’s (HBF) annual Future Talent Conference took place last week, 7 and 8 March, with more than 100 industry apprentices, trainees, graduates, and new entrants coming together to expand their professional knowledge.

Now in its seventh year, the event provided attendees with exclusive industry insights into trends and challenges, valuable networking opportunities and a chance to expand their professional development.

Over the course of two days, participants engaged in a number of interactive workshops covering biodiversity net gain, the impact of sustainability on the sector and reputation management. Participants also took part in a team presentation project, with the finalists presenting on stage during the event’s final morning.

A highlight of the conference programme was its impressive line-up of speakers. Oliver Novakovic, Technical & Innovation Director at Barratt Developments, explored modern methods of construction (MMC) and the importance of delivering low carbon homes in today’s housing market.

Property developer and influencer, Charlotte Edwards – AKA The Accidental Female Developer - shared her journey of starting out in the industry and the valuable lessons learned. Former Downing Street Press Secretary, Paul Harrison revealed more about the politics behind the industry and Cathryn Greville of the Supply Chain Sustainability School discussed the importance of allyship.

James who attended the event said: “It was great to hear from the guest speakers and… I enjoyed networking with other people who are at the beginning of their career”.

Martha another participant at the event , commented: “What a fantastic experience at the Home Builders Federation Future Talent Conference 2024. This was a memorable experience and such an informative conference”.

Jenny Herdman, Director of HBF’s Skills Partnership, said: “The HBF Future Talent Conference is all about interactive learning to help prepare participants for their futures in home building and inspire them towards leadership. The range of topics covered are those that participants don’t routinely see in their day-to-day activities allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the industry.”

While the conference may have concluded, there is still an opportunity for early talent in the industry to continue to progress their professional development by joining HBF’s Future Talent Group. Exclusive to membership organisations, this group offers early talent an opportunity to feed into HBF activity, gain insight and expand their professional networks. By joining the group, participants will also be kept up-to-date on next year’s conference and other similar events.
