Local Development Plans

16 Jul, 2003

The Assembly Government has issued a note on the implications for development plans of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Bill.

The main points are:

LPAs are expected to progress their UDPs to Adoption.

Where UDPs have yet to reach deposit stage (5 due out soon another 5 likely to take this option) they are encouraged to incorporate as far as possible the principles of the new system.

The new system is expected to come into force in Summer 2005.

Provisions will be put in place to ensure that whatever constitutes the development plan in an area will retain development plan status.

LDPs are expected to be shorter, simpler, more concise and more locally focused documents that are not overly burdened by excessively detailed development control policies.
