Mayoral elections 2021

London

The incumbent, Sadiq Khan, will re-contest the mayoralty for Labour. Shaun Bailey was selected as the candidate for the Conservative Party in September 2018. Bailey has been a member of the London Assembly since 2016, having previously worked as a youth worker and as a special adviser to David Cameron. Sian Berry will run as the Green Party candidate. Berry, who has been co-leader of the Green Party since 2018 and a Member of the London Assembly since 2016, was announced as the party's mayoral candidate on 14 February 2019. Luisa Porritt has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate. Porritt had served as an MEP for London from 2019 to 2020 and as a councillor on Camden London Borough Council from 2018, having become group leader earlier in September 2020.

Greater Manchester

The incumbent, Andy Burnham, will defend the mayoralty for Labour. Simon Lepori, a Liberal Democrat campaigner in Trafford, has been announced as the Party’s candidate in the May election. He stood for the Party as their Parliamentary candidate in Wythenshawe and Sale East constituency in 2019, placing third behind Labour and the Conservatives, respectively. The Conservative candidate is Laura Evans, a former Trafford councillor.

Liverpool City Region

The incumbent mayor Steve Rotheram was reselected as candidate for the Labour Party. Jade Marsden has been selected as candidate for the Conservative Party. Marsden was previously the parliamentary candidate for both the Bootle and Sefton Central constituencies.  Andy Corkhill will run as the Liberal Democrat candidate. Corkhill is a councillor for OxtonWirral. The Green Party candidate is Gary Cargill, an actor who has appeared in several hit TV shows and Hollywood films.

Tees Valley

Ben Houchen, the current mayor, will stand again for election. The Labour Party has selected Jessie Joe Jacobs as its candidate for the city-region. Jacobs is the founder of the charity A Way Out in Stockton and created a media project that taught ordinary people skills to report news called “We Are Our Media”, which created a citizen newspaper called the Eclipse. The Liberal Democrats have stated that they plan to stand a candidate, but no one has been declared yet.

West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire will elect its first metropolitan mayor on 6 May. Tracy Brabin, MP for Batley and Spen and a former actor and television writer, was selected to be the Labour candidate in a ballot of local members that concluded on 11 December 2020.

The Conservatives have yet to confirm a candidate. There has been speculation that Ken Davy, businessperson and parliamentary candidate for Huddersfield in 2019, might stand. Sayeeda Warsi, peer and former co-chair of the Conservative Party has declined the candidacy.

Andrew Cooper, leader of the Green Party on Kirklees Council was announced as the Green Party's mayoral candidate on 16 September 2020.

West Midlands

Incumbent Conservative mayor Andy Street has been reselected to stand in the mayoralty. Liam Byrne, MP for Birmingham Hodge Hill, has been selected to run as the Labour Party candidate. The Liberal Democrats have chosen two time Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton Coldfield Jenny Wilkinson and the Green Party has selected its Group Leader on Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Steve Caudwell.

West of England

The incumbent Conservative mayor, Tim Bowles, will defend against two rivals in the form of former MPs Stephen Williams for the Liberal Democrats and Dan Norris for the Labour Party who came second in 2017. 

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

James Palmer, the incumbent mayor will be standing for re-election for the Conservatives. The Labour Party announced in November 2020, that Nik Johnson, a children's doctor in Huntingdon, would run as its candidate. He was the party's parliamentary candidate for Huntingdon in 2015 and 2017, and serves as a district councillor. The Liberal Democrats selected the deputy leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, Aidan Van de Weyer, as its candidate. The Green Party has yet to announce a candidate.

Sheffield City Region and North of Tyne will hold their second metro mayor elections in 2022.
