Mobile Plant Licences - proposed new rules

29 March, 2005

The Environment Agency, working with Defra and the Cabinet Office as part of the Remediation Licensing Task Force, is changing its approach to mobile plant licensing.

Currently a remediator wanting to operate at two different sites at the same time needs two licences. It is proposed that form October there wiill be a new system where remediators hold one mobile plant licence authorising the use of several pieces of mobile plant, either singly or in combination, at the same time on different sites.

It is intended to reduce the barriers to cleaning up contaminated land for redevelopment and to encourage the use of sustainable 'on-site' treatment methods instead of sending materials to landfill sites.

Mobile Plant Licences should be obtained from the Environment Agency where your principal place of business (for example, registered office) is within England and Wales. Please contact the National Customer Call Centre (0870 8506506) for further information on how to apply for a mobile plant Licence.
