Part M - good news

10 November, 2005

There have been proposals to include Lifetime Homes Standards in a review of Part M.

During negotiations with the Senior Steering Group for the Code for Sustainable Buildings it transpired that it is intended to include Lifetime Homes standards as a component  of  some levels within the Code.

HBF suggested that, this being the case, there would be little benefit in adding them to Building Regulations so the proposed review of Part M would be superfluous.

After some persuasion, this argument was eventually accepted and we are expecting to see an announcement that the review of Part M is to be suspended.

This is excellent news for the industry as compliance with the Code will be voluntary which will allow some flexibility in the use of Lifetime Homes.
