WHAT DOES YOUR DEPARTMENT DO?

Redrow’s training department aims to provide the necessary support to the business in the form of training sessions, induction and development programmes, mentoring and on-the–job coaching.

WHAT DO YOU DO ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS?

Analysis of training needs prior to the designing of viable, effective and measurable solutions.The organisation and delivery of training solutions independently and with appropriate experts in the business/industry.The evaluation of training solutions to provide evidence of success or to improve the product designed.The maintenance of existing training material.The continual development of Redrow’s construction staff via processes and systems training.I am also Programme Leader for Redrow’s Assistant Site Manager Development programme, which combines a level 3 NVQ in Site Supervision with intensive training in Redrow best practice.Provision of training to raise the competency of our Site Managers and Assistants, including the registration on the appropriate NVQ, in order to achieve a fully carded construction workforce.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

I like the opportunity to be creative in designing training solutions and also to measurably improve the skills/knowledge of individuals and consequently strengthen Redrow’s workforce, positioning us to offer an excellent service to our customers and shareholders.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CAREER?

I chose this career because of the satisfaction it can deliver when a training solution is successful, it allows me to work on my own and in a team and the chance it offers me to be creative.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DID YOU NEED TO GET THIS JOB?

Purely my experience in the field of training & development with a previous employer were the qualifications to get the job.

IS THERE ANY PARTICULAR ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE A GRADUATE OR TRAINEE LOOKING FOR A JOB IN YOUR WORK AREA?

My advice to others interested in a similar role to mine would be to consider combining relevant on-the-job experience with a qualification with the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD), as this is widely respected and can accelerate your progress in this field.
