Following HBF’s success in developing ‘robust details’ as an alternative to pre-completion sound testing (PCT), the new, independent company, Robust Details Limited (RD Ltd) will open for business on 4 May 2004, as reported in HBF’s March newsletter.
For information, RD Ltd is the only organisation able to approve and manage the use of robust details for Part E of the Building Regulations (in England and Wales). An electronic version of their brochure, ‘Who we are, what we do’, is attached, and provides an overview of the company and its operation.

In order to deal with Member enquiries on the subject, it is to be noted that, in line with the recommendations in the public consultation carried out by ODPM, RD Ltd is an independent, non-profit distributing company, limited by guarantee, controlled by a management board whose members represent a range of professional organisations and stakeholders - all with an interest in the construction of attached, residential dwellings. HBF is represented on this management board, but has no commercial interest in the company.
