RPG14 Studies (HBF Member Involvement)

17 March, 2004

HBF had a meeting with East of England Regional Assembly and GO-East representatives in March 2004 at which discussion occurred as to how to take forward development industry involvement in the additional RPG14 Studies Work. HBF has agreed to facilitate a developers workshop after Easter (probably early May 2004) to discuss possible spatial scenarios in the region in order that the industry might put a practical spin on political spatial planning ambitions.

HBF representaives had a meeting with Alan Moore of the East of England Regional Assembly and John Dowey and Colin Campbell of GO-East on Friday, 12th March 2004 at which we discussed how to take forward development industry involvement in the additional RPG14 Studies Work.

Although we did not pin down the exact format of submissions to be made in the way that we had hoped (and outlined at the HBF eastern regional planning meeting) Alan appears happy to receive any advice or details of strategic growth locations in the region and some indication of whether or not they have any current planning status. His definition of "strategic" is sites in excess of 1,000 dwellings. They seem particularly keen on sites which won't require delays for significant infrastructure provision, or which even better from their point of view, help to rectify existing infrastructure deficiencies (road and junction improvements, bypasses, park & ride facilities e.t.c. e.t.c.). Basically sites that could be developed relatively quickly, and might also be able to deliver community benefits.

Site details (including any information you may feel practicable or helpful) or just general comments of where you think strategic growth would be best located can be sent to Alan at Flempton House, Flempton, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. IP28 6EG.

HBF has agreed to facilitate a developers workshop after Easter (probably early May) to discuss possible spatial scenarios in the region in order that the industry might put a practical spin on political spatial planning ambitions. HBF will keep you informed of where and when this event will be held. It has been suggested to us that attendance to this workshop be wider than just HBF Members, so as to include housebuilders who are not our members, and also some landowners (and possibly business representatives).
