Mayor Dan Jarvis has urged the Government to recommit to a devolved approach to levelling-up the North, following the Government’s Spending Review. Mayor Jarvis raised concerns regarding key regional development funds being replaced by smaller budgets with “significant control” shifted back to central Government. Further commenting on a Yorkshire Post Opinion piece about the Government’s levelling-up agenda, Mayor Jarvis tweeted: “If you can’t define what levelling up means or how it is measured, you are not serious about it. If you don’t have a detailed, funded strategy for levelling up, you are not serious about it. If you don’t trust our communities to lead levelling up, you are not serious about it.”

The Sheffield City Region Mayoral Combined Authority and Local Enterprise Partnership has approved the Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) for the next 20 years. The Plan outlines measures to boost the City-Region’s economy and recover from the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
