I enjoy advising line managers on employment issues, in particular dealing with management of absence, disciplinary cases and grievance cases, taking into consideration employment legislation.I also enjoy contributing to improving our HR processes and procedures through tightening HR policies to ensure we are providing better information and guidance to line managers.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CAREER?

I wanted to develop my career within a profession, which gave me the opportunity to gain a professional qualification. I also chose a career in HR as I enjoy the continually changing profession so that there is always something new to learn to further develop my knowledge and skills.

IS THERE ANY PARTICULAR ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE A GRADUATE OR TRAINEE LOOKING FOR A JOB IN YOUR WORK AREA?

I initially found it very difficult to get into the HR profession as most companies are looking for HR experience and a relevant qualification. So I would suggest doing the Certificate in Personnel Practice is a good starting point and I carried out a weeks work experience in an HR environment within the NHS, which gave me the opportunity to obtain an HR job within another hospital.
