The East of England Plan (Regional Spatial Strategy)

14 December, 2004

Public consultation about 'The East of England Plan' (Regional Spatial Strategy) began on 8 December 2004.

The East of England Plan, or RSS, sets out the regional strategy for planning and development in the East of England up to 2021. It covers economic development, housing, the environment, transport, waste management, culture, sport and recreation, mineral extraction and more.

The RSS has a key role in contributing to the region's sustainable development, setting out policies that address the needs of the region and key sub-regions. These policies provide a development framework for the next 15 to 20 years that will influence the quality of life, the character of places and how they function, and it informs other strategies and plans.

The RSS identifies the significant investment that will be needed in social, environmental, economic and transport facilities (infrastructure) if it is to achieve its desired results. That investment will come from a variety of sources, including central and local government and private developers.

The deadline for the submission of written comments is 16 March 2005.
