WRc self-lay workshops

23 December, 2004

One of the changes in the Water Act 2003 (which amended the Water Industry Act 1991) allows developers to appoint contractors of their own choosing to install mains and services on their sites. This is known as self-lay.

WRc has developed a generic code of practice for self-lay in England and Wales in conjunction with Water UK and UKWIR, the body representing all UK water companies, and the Society of British Water and Wastewater Industries (SBWWI).

To ensure that contractors are aware of the code and the opportunities that self-lay offers, the WRc has organised a series of workshops in Bristol, Bracknell, Derby and Milton Keynes where local water companies and developers will explain how self-lay changes are being implemented. There will also be presentations outlining the legislative framework, training requirements and an overview of the WRc's new code of practice.
