Extract from Barker Review final report:
“The industry should work together with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) to agree a code of best practice in the external design of new houses. Where planners and housebuilders disagree on specific design issues, they should seek arbitration, possibly through CABE, to resolve these matters.”

HBF’s response to Recommendation 35 has been on hold while Communities and Local Government (CLG) carries out a review of design initiatives by various organisations.
However, HBF is working closely with CABE to develop a positive business plan for better marketing the Building for Life award scheme, a joint initiative between HBF, CABE and the Civic Trust, to ensure the industry achieves recognition for good quality developments.
