Technical Groups


The Technical Department at HBF seeks to be a conduit between government departments and the home building industry. It strives towards pragmatic and deliverable innovation and regulatory change for the betterment of the industry and the consumer.

The groups collaborate and meet with representatives from the industry, wider bodies, stakeholders as well as government officials. The groups aim to keep members informed of any news or changes that affect the operational delivery of housing policy.

Highways

Key to any successful development is the smooth and timely delivery of highway infrastructure. The group meets periodically to discuss and attempt to solve the many challenges with highway delivery and successfully commencing a new development.

Tall Buildings

The Tall Buildings group was formed in order to strategically review the challenges and solutions involved with developing tall buildings from Fire strategy, material choices, regulatory reform and best practice responses to safe building performance.

Utilities

The Utilities group looks at innovation, best practice, emerging legislation and challenges to delivery across the entire utilities network covering Gas, Water, Electricity and Communications. The group's objective is to ensure efficient, cost-effective delivery of utility supplies to new dwellings on time.

Water Matters

The impact of water, flooding, and drainage has a significant bearing on the deliverability of a housing scheme and its wider strategic impact. The group's objective is to seek deliverable and pragmatic solutions to infrastructure delivery whilst maintaining the delicate environmental balance that is key to harmonious place-making and the wider national housing delivery agenda.

Regional Technical Groups

Regional meetings are designed to keep developers informed on any and all major updates, projects, consultations, government legislation, and changes that have happened or will happen within the construction industry. It is also a chance to review and discuss any issues that are affecting developers within their prospective regions. Regions include: Eastern, Midlands, North East, North West, Southern, South West, Wales, and Yorkshire.

National Technical & Sustainability Committee

The National Technical & Sustainability Committee (NTSC) meets three times a year to consider technical issues relating to housebuilding. Its purpose is to form an overarching steering committee for all technical-related matters and challenges facing the industry. Its members review and comment on aspects of government policy in relation to changes in technology and construction, particularly regulations which affect building practice and construction and the commercial implications of proposed changes.
